How to use the Markdown Editor
- 1
Start writing
Open the editor, type or import a .md file — the live preview renders it instantly beside your cursor.
- 2
Format & organize
Use the toolbar for headings, tables, math and diagrams, jump around with the Outline panel, and keep several documents in the drawer.
- 3
Export
Download as PDF, Word, styled HTML or plain Markdown, or print directly — everything renders exactly like the preview.
Markdown to PDF
Open Export → Download PDF to turn your Markdown into a paginated, selectable-text PDF in one click. Headings, tables, code blocks and lists render exactly like the preview; math and Mermaid diagrams are embedded as crisp images so the file looks right on any device without needing fonts installed. Longer documents route through a server render automatically for reliable, fully vector output.
Markdown to Word
Export → Download Word produces a real, editable .docx — not an image or a PDF wrapper. Tables, nested lists, task lists, headings and syntax-highlighted code all become native Word structures you can keep editing, while math and diagrams are embedded as images. Open it in Microsoft Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice Writer.
Markdown to HTML
Export → Download HTML generates a standalone, styled .html file — headings, tables, code blocks, math and Mermaid diagrams all baked in with clean CSS, so it opens correctly in any browser with zero dependencies. Handy for sharing a document as a single file, archiving, or dropping straight onto your own site.
Markdown to Rich Text Converter
Rich text keeps your formatting as an actual formatted object — bold stays bold, headings stay headings, tables stay tables — instead of literal Markdown symbols. Click Copy HTML and paste straight into Gmail, Word, Google Docs or Notion, and the formatting carries over exactly like copying from a document. Use Download HTML instead if you want a standalone file rather than a paste.
Markdown to Text Converter
Plain text strips Markdown syntax down to clean, readable prose — no asterisks, no pound signs, no pipe characters. Click Export → Download Text (or Copy Markdown to keep the raw source) to get a file with bullets, numbered lists and checkboxes rendered as plain characters, ready to paste anywhere formatting isn't supported.
Markdown Editor features
Live split preview
Split, editor-only or preview-only views with synced scrolling, so the rendered page always matches what you're typing.
Math & Mermaid diagrams
LaTeX equations render with KaTeX and flowcharts, sequence and Gantt diagrams render with Mermaid — right in the preview pane.
Export anywhere
One-click export to PDF, Word (.docx), standalone HTML or plain .md, plus copy-as-HTML and print.
Private & autosaved
Everything runs in your browser and autosaves to local storage as you type — no sign-up, no upload, nothing to lose.
Security & privacy
Your writing stays private. The editor, live preview and every export format (PDF, Word, HTML, .md) run entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded to any server, and documents only ever live in your browser's local storage.
Frequently asked questions
Is the oMyPDF Markdown Editor free?
Yes. It's completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many documents you write.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It runs entirely in your browser — open the page and start writing. Nothing is installed, and nothing is uploaded to a server.
Will my document be saved if I close the tab?
Yes. Every keystroke autosaves to your browser's local storage, so your document is right there the next time you open the editor — even after closing the tab or restarting your computer.
What Markdown features are supported?
The full GitHub-Flavored Markdown spec: headings, bold/italic/strikethrough, links, images, nested and ordered lists, task lists, tables with column alignment, blockquotes, horizontal rules and fenced code blocks with syntax highlighting.
Does it support math and diagrams?
Yes. Inline and display LaTeX math renders live with KaTeX, and fenced ```mermaid code blocks render as flowcharts, sequence diagrams, Gantt charts and more.
Can I work on more than one document?
Yes. Open the documents drawer to create, rename, duplicate, import or switch between as many Markdown documents as you like — each autosaves independently.
What's the difference between the text and rich text options?
Download Text (or Copy Markdown) gives you plain characters — no bold, no colors, just readable text or the raw Markdown source. Copy HTML (or Download HTML) gives you rich text — real bold, headings and tables that paste directly into Word, Gmail or Docs with formatting intact.
What can I export to?
PDF, Word (.docx), standalone HTML, plain text or plain .md, or send straight to your printer. Math and diagrams are embedded as crisp images in PDF and Word exports.
Is my content private?
Completely. Writing, previewing and exporting to PDF/Word/HTML/.md all happen locally in your browser — your Markdown never leaves your device.
