Related tools

Compare two versions of a document and see exactly what changed. oMyPDF's Compare tool works across formats: compare PDF vs PDF, a Word (.docx) file vs a PDF, or Word vs Word, in any order. It shows both files side by side and highlights the differences right on the page — content removed from the original in red, content added in the revision in blue — while a word-level change list pinpoints every added, removed and changed word. Because the two documents are compared as a single stream of text rather than page by page, an inserted paragraph that pushes everything onto later pages still lines up correctly instead of flagging the rest of the document as changed. Comparison runs on our servers, which is what makes it thorough: alongside added and removed wording it reports moved passages, differences inside tables row by row, and changed images or charts that carry no text at all. Scanned pages are read with OCR so they can be compared too. Word files are converted with LibreOffice first so page breaks and automatic numbering match what Word itself would print. Both documents are deleted automatically within an hour. Perfect for reviewing contract redlines, revised reports and design proofs.

Frequently asked questions

Is the oMyPDF Compare tool free?

Yes. Comparing two documents — PDF or Word — is completely free, with no watermark and no sign-up required.

Can I compare a Word document with a PDF?

Yes. You can compare PDF vs PDF, Word (.docx) vs PDF, or Word vs Word in any slot order. Word files are converted with LibreOffice first so page breaks and automatic list numbering match what Word itself would print. No manual conversion needed.

Where are my files processed?

On our server. The comparison engine reads both documents with pdfplumber, aligns them word by word, OCRs any scanned pages and compares images pixel by pixel — work no browser can do well. Both files and the results are deleted automatically within an hour. Your browser only draws the pages and the highlights.

What do the highlight colours mean?

On the side-by-side view, text that only appears in the original is highlighted red (removed) on the left, and text that only appears in the revised file is highlighted blue (added) on the right.

Which Word formats are supported?

Modern Word .docx files are supported. Older .doc files should be saved as .docx (or exported to PDF) first.

Can it compare scanned PDFs?

The highlighting and word-level diff rely on selectable text, so they work best on text-based PDFs and Word files. Scanned or image-only pages are still shown side by side, but run them through OCR first to detect wording changes.

What if the two files have a different number of pages?

Extra pages are detected automatically — pages that exist only in the original are flagged as deleted, and pages that exist only in the revised file are flagged as new.
